Action.
Heliotrope contains biologically active substances (BAS) of various chemical groups, including ethereal oils (bornyl isovalerianate),
organic acids (valerianic and isovalerianic), valepotriates and alkaloids (valerine and chotenine). BAS complex action in heliotrope causes sedative (soothing), anxiolytic (antianxiety), spasmolytic, biliary and vasodilating effects, ensures normalization of wake-sleep schedule, and helps improve night sleep and speed up falling asleep. Heliotrope BAS lead to a minor cardiac rhythm slowdown and enhance digestive tract mucous coat secretory activity, besides, improvement of coronary blood flow is observed.
Mechanism of action is connected with the ability of heliotrope active components to inhibit the central nervous system, retardation of bulb and mesencephalon systems and enhancement of cortical process lability have been also noticed. Heliotrope acts on the heart both indirectly through the central nervous system and by means of direct effect of heliotrope active components on coronary vessels.
